The site is located in Anand town of Gujarat. This town- essentially a strong hold for PATEL community that has its own unique “unsaid” design vocabulary of its own embedded in its cultural context that has a typical design taste. We tried to completely break free from this “typical taste” as the client too wished to go for a different vocabulary.
A bit of period look of 70’s and 80’s scratching the surface of Deco-Art style and quickly moving away from it keeping in mind practical execution issues and economical constraint.
A young nuclear family of four with an extended joint-family staying in Anand itself and the requirement was of flexible utility spaces, hence the Dining, Living area with extended balcony and kitchen had to be interconnected into one flexible zone.
The bed-rooms (Private-zones) are detached but connected with a passage leading from the Dining area. These three flexible zones are thus connected with a bold expression of a decorative false ceiling which comes down to the dining table.
