When the central wall was pulled down to make 2 apartments a single abode, a beam of 1’6” depth right in the centre of the living space laughed right at us. We decided to go for a contemporary theme with a traditional touch designing a warm and cozy Home.
Without compromising the actual height of the space, we embellished the existing beam and introduced small faux beams parallel to the existing one. You are greeted at the entrance by a wooden screen with a play of solids and voids; the 2 edge panels with vertical fins creates pattern on the floor when light falls on it. That same wooden screen extends to create a pooja room.
A paneling with 2 library units was introduced in the living space keep up in mind the annual Ganesh sthapna that takes place at the client’s house. The paneling then becomes a decorative backdrop for the festival days; rest of the days houses a collection of wall plates. Teal beams against the white ceiling complement the wood used.
Similar teal faux beams are continued in the dining space. A minimal dining table with Kalinga stone top sits in front of the accent wall of yellow colour filled with a collage of artwork, which the owner had collected over period of time.
