The Threshold: Mr. Shabbir Barodawala
Comprehensive landscape development of a completely Ravine land admeasuring app 10 bigas.
The idea was an ecological appraisal of the entire plot with the immediate surroundings. To check and understand: - can a degraded, eroded and unstable piece of land be revived to create its own eco- system?
- The scope also included applying and evaluating the principles of contour bunding, cut & fill exercise, water retention & harvesting techniques, agricultural techniques etc.
- Creating a usable land from the ravines which are essentially un-stable and shifting in nature.
- Re-establishing of the river side slope to sustain the impact of water when released during monsoon from Kadana Dam.
- Planting of area specific trees and wild trees species (not generally used), to break the monoculture of this area i.e. the only visible trees in this area are Gando Baval( Prosopis juliflora) and Neem
(Azadiracta indica).
- To re-establish the entire plot into some usable landforms which eventually are stable enough to be developed into a Farm.
Eventually 4 usable plateaus were created-
Plateau 1 housing a vast expanse of lawn and farm house,
Plateau 2 with a Gazebo, duck pond, Swimmimg pool and an Overhanging deck
Plateau 3 becoming an agricultural land and,
Plateau 4 as the fruit orchard
